From the traditionThe Padma Purana and the Bhavishyottara Purana. In the tradition each Ekadashi has its own katha, told by Sri Krishna to Yudhishthira.
In brief
Nirjala Ekadashi is also called Bhimseni Ekadashi: Bhima asked Vyasa for one fast in place of the whole year's Ekadashis.
On Devshayani Ekadashi Vishnu enters yoga nidra and Chaturmas begins; on Prabodhini (Devuthani) Ekadashi he wakes.
On Vaikuntha Ekadashi the Vaikuntha gate opens in the Vaishnava temples of the south.
